OUR NEXT STAR GAZING EVENT!

Join us for Stars, Myths and Dragons
at Fiske Planetarium, Colorado University
February 4th, 2006 on the campus.

Fiske Planetarium

Saturday, February 4th at 7:00 PM

Join us for our 'keystone of the arch' presentation! Under the wings of the dragon fly many of the myths of antiquity, born of the secrets of the stars! Draco was the central circumpolar constellation for almost five thousand years, and this left behind many tales in the oral tradition which spoke of a huge dragon hiding among the clouds, some as recent as St George, and others older than the historical record. Come listen as Athena's nimble fingers weave together the myths of Gilgamesh, the Babylonian Creation Myth, the Rape of Europa, Cadmus at Thebes, Jason and the Argonauts and many others with amazing ease! On the trail of the tail of the Dragon is a real eye-opener, with many implications both for the past and the future.

I would personally like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Fiske Planetarium for helping make this offering to the public possible.

After working on both Deep Impact and Space Storm over the last year
it has been a real pleasure to know both the people and talent which have pulled together in such a formidable undertaking.

Thank you, one and all.

PANORAMA PICKS- AUG 27-30, 2003

Star Myths

Boulder Weekly's PANORAMIC PICK
for their August 28th issue

This week, the flirtatious planet Mars is coming the closest to Earth that it's been in 60,000 years. The fiery redhead that has haunted the fantasies of earthlings for centuries will beam its brightest this weekend. If you're looking for the best place to catch this cosmic rendezvous, try Starmyths, an event hosted by astrologer and astronomer Don Cerow.

For four nights, eager stargazers and amateur astronomers will gather with Cerow on Gunbarrel Hill at the East Boulder trailhead and turn their eyes toward the sky. In addition to taking in the night sky and getting up-close and personal with Mars, Starmyths involves storytelling, passing on the myths of the plantets, stars, and gods.

Starmyths takes place at 8 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 27-30, at the East Boulder trailhead, Gunbarrel Hill, Boulder, 303-417-6625. Advance registration is required.

AMAZING EVENTS happening now in SPACE:

Comet Neat

We saw Comet Neat!

In May, 2004 Comet NEAT will appear in the southern skies over Boulder. Begin looking on May 1st, but the best viewing will be around May 6th. Look towards Procyon and Sirius as guides. It is best appreciated with binoculars in the hour after sunset.

(And in a post script, we had seven or eight telescopes out for our May 6th veiwing, and were able to spot Comet Neat (photograph) through both the telescopes, and then, with their help, with the naked eye. Our thanks to all the friends from LAS- Longmont Astronomical Society (www.longmontastro.org) who showed up and helped with their knowledge, telescopes and most of all enthusiasm for the event!)
