Aquarian Wave

Columns Archive

All year long we've been watching the outer planets rock back and forth in retrograde and direct motion in the last few degrees of their respective signs. We have been saying that these are the tail-end degrees, where the energy tends to wain. We are seeing the end of an era. Because these outer planets are making some hard aspects to each other, we feel the effects in our weather patterns, political angst or the social trends of society. Waning degrees represent fading energy, while early degrees tend to be full of piss and vinegar.

The face of Revolution

Waning degrees represent fading energy, while early degrees tend to be full of piss and vinegar.

We are witnessing the early labor pains of the birth of the Age of Aquarius. The water just broke.

Here's a quick list. 29 is as high as you can go. In January, Neptune and Chiron were at 27 and 28 degrees of Aquarius. Juno is at 29 Virgo with an inconjunct. Opposing that is Uranus and Jupiter at 27 and 28 degrees of Pisces, and that has been the basic package throughout most of last year.

On the 12th, 13th and 14th of January, Mars charged through and lit a match to the situation, cresting at the 27th, 28th and 29th degrees of Capricorn just as the Tunisian people's revolution was being born. On Friday evening, January 14th Pres. Ben Ali was forced to leave office, largely over the disclosures made public by WikiLeaks.

Say hello to the Revolution, the sign of invention and the people, electricity, the internet and freedom of speech.

  Say hello to Aquarius.

Aquarius is an electricity. It can be the lightning bolts that strike from above, or it can be the tingling your skin goes through when you feel aroused. Before he left Ben Ali promised 'total freedom for the media,' and 'no shutting down Internet sites.'

It's what the people want. It's part of the in-coming tide. And it is truly a people's revolt. Although it would serve the interests of some who would like to say that this is the work of a terrorist group (it would serve their agenda), it's not, and the reporters keep asking.

After a college educated street vendor could not find work, he burned himself in despair. When WikiLeaks exposed the conspicuous consumption of Ben Ali and his wife, the Tunisians spontaneously arose, largely fed by the electronic media of cell phones, cameras and other devices of media circulation around the country, and around the world. Whether Egyptian or Tunisian, people are feeling a new sense of freedom, and freedom of speech.

One 32 year old protester said he felt emboldened to speak publicly without fear of reprisals.

"Now, we can say what we want," he said. "It has started to change."

As the Wave moved from Tunisia to Egypt, it was in a position to impact the entire Islamic World, and through them, the World itself. As the Sun and Mars entered Aquarius and rode through the heavens in a tightening conjunction, the people were embolden to do what they did, and the security forces had the sense to back off. The question is, will the military now lead the country in a total new direction, or will it simply become Mubarak's replacement?

But like the French Revolution, it's difficult to say where all of this change will eventually lead, except to say that eventually it will mean a new Freedom of Speech in this Aquarian land.
