The horns of the New Moon

At the start of our WEBWeek (Friday) we have the New Moon in Pisces. Any New Moon is the initiation of a new cycle, the beginning of a new round. Once upon a time, the month began with the New Moon, while the Ides of the month (the 15th) were the Full Moon.

Not everything is impacted by the New Moon. Those people, places and things that are ruled by the Moon pick up the vibration more than others, as if their Mom were calling them. The night, women, feelings, habits, memories, food, families, homes and even the state of our dress are a few of the many who (or which) respond to the lunar rays.

The Moon is a difficult body to follow astronomically. The Sun follows the same track year after year, ploughing the same furrow. The Moon seems to 'drift' more, sometimes riding above the Sun, while at other times it swings around below. It has been conjectured by more than a few that Stonehenge and other megalithic markers were an attempt to observe and calibrate these curious and wayward paths.

The New Moon

Over the next two weeks the Moon will increase the amount of reflected light we can see here on the Earth until it reaches its maximum. In effect, the Moon goes from nothing (it's light cannot be seen at the time of the New Moon because the 'backside' of the Moon is being lit, the side we can never see from the Earth) to being fully lit at the Full Moon. Since the Lunar Lady rules our moods and feelings, there's a 'tide' that's at work here. When the cycle is winding down moving into the New Moon, we don't feel like doing much. The Moon also rules the general public, and folks tend to stay in more, not 'feeling' like going out, especially at night. We're more tired and to some extent, pull back into our selves. At the time of the Full Moon, we need less sleep and are more apt to give vent to our feelings, 'cutting loose' or letting go. Situations are more dynamic, powerful and charged. The celestial voltage is up. If the other aspects in your chart are supportive, then this can be a very exciting time indeed. If, on the other hand you are in a period of crisis in your life, the Full Moon will add emotional intensity and tend to bring things to a boil. It's so much more than the straw which broke the camel's back.

Moon

An almost Full Moon

Think of the difference between 110 and 220 volts. Both can bring electronics to life, but there is simply so much more power in the Full Moon.

There are twelve New Moons throughout the course of the year, each one falling in either a different sign or constellation (they are not the same). The New Moon in Pisces occurs at the end of the winter season. Like all of the water signs, this is a highly emotional time when our feeling can lead the way. We are flushing out old connections, sweeping out the debris. The miracle of Jesus walking on the water was not so much about stepping out to catch a bit of fresh air, as it is learning to overcome our own personal emotions and feelings and surrender to a higher authority. The Piscean themes correspond with Christ's time in the desert when he fasted for 40 days in an journey to help him come to terms with the path that lay before him.

Pisces is the twelfth of the twelve signs of the zodiac. It is a time of endings, which must be followed by a complete new beginning. While we stand in the mist of uncertainty, we must use our intuition and imagination to help figure out how to get from here to spiritual there.
