Athena's Web Weekly Column
Week of Feb 17th - Feb 23rd, 2006
This Saturday, February 18th at 2:25 PM EST the Sun will enter the sign Pisces, the plural of a Latin word (piscis) which simply translates as 'Fish'.
This mutable water sign is sensitive, retiring, intuitive and emotional. Their capacity to tune into their environment and 'read' the currents which flow about them is legendary, but they can be swept away by these moods. Their 'psychic antenna' monitors the subtle shifts of what is happening all around them, often without understanding the connection.
Pisces is the sign of the subconscious, a shadowy, twilight realm into which we sweep all the things which do not occupy our current focus. The term, 'subconscious', indicates that which is beneath the level of our awareness, of those things which are lost, forgotten, ignored, denied or overlooked.
The Sun, the planet entering Pisces on the 18th, is the 'planet' of consciousness (if we can call the Sun a planet). Generally, when the planet of consciousness enters the realm of the subconscious, two things happen. Our conscious judgement, focus and concentration (the Sun) are made more murky. Definition has fuzzier edges, if it has edges at all. Our attention tends to drift, and placement of small objects can become one of the great enigmas of life. Where did they go? Sleep is one of the great gifts of the gods, and glassy eyed comas or drunkenness a heightened state of awareness.
All of these conditions are products of what we experience out here in the material world.
The educational monotony of the classroom provides a rhythmic drone which stirs the creation of stunning feats outside every window. Blank stares and wistful smiles belie the collage of fateful clashes just beyond the teacher's radar. The Pisces student does not do well with the verbal diatribe expected to be parroted back at essay time, but they excel in the color, form, music and more creative arts shaped by the contours of their ample imaginations.
On the flip side, the planet of consciousness entering this watery realm is what fuels their intuitive factors. There is greater light and warmth which can be used to illuminate issues which are generally hidden from us. These folks can 'see' what it is others are feeling, because they can feel it themselves. Issues which laid hidden behind the veil can slowly emerge into the light. We uncover what had been covered. While asleep, our dreams begin to take on greater meaning and understanding. Angels, spirits, fairies and the little folk hide out under every hill and dale, stirring our curiosity and messing with our minds. The imagination blossoms in vibrant technicolor, while seasonally the cool, damp airs of winter give way to the warming breezes of the early morning Sun, and mists fill the valleys and enchant our pathways.
Often feeling that they are not of this world, these intuitive factors leave the Pisces estranged from the circumstances around them; but once their ample sensitivities discover the joys of helping those in need, their inner light leaps for the opportunity to help those on whom life has turned. The chance to lend a helping hand to those who have fallen, to feed those who are hungry, to assist those who can no longer walk and to listen to those whom have a sensitive story to tell, provide some of their simple joys and beauty of life here on Earth.
