The time has come to take a look at Pisces, our last sign of the zodiac. This orientation springs from a time when the first month, marked by the vernal equinox in the middle of March, started the agricultural year and many calendars. Hence, Pisces represents the end of a cycle. It is a time to finish things up, complete what you've been doing, repair what has been left undone, and put your metaphorical tools away in anticipation of the new order which is getting ready to unfold, and the new demands which this will place on your time, your energy, and your focus.
Pisces is a mutable water sign ruled by Neptune. The old ruler (Neptune was only discovered in 1842) was Jupiter. Pisces is the sign (and the Latin word for) fish, while Neptune is the Lord of the Sea. This is an emotional energy, which tends to be sensitive, caring, compassionate, and full of the unseen attributes, such as sadness or joy. Because Neptune deals with the subconscious, it concerns itself with things which are 'behind the scenes,' such as sleep and dreams, relaxation and vacations, down time and letting go. The Sun represents the daylight, conscious mind. It is the specific words which you are reading, right now. Neptune is everything else. It is everything that you are not paying attention to, have forgotten, ignored, denied, confused, lost, misplaced or dropped into the Twilight Zone.
Our subconscious is the doorway into the spirit realms, the springboard to meditation, prayer, telepathy, myths, images, poetry, inspiration and miracles. It is the right side of the brain. The more specific you get with facts and figures, the deeper out into left field they go. 'I don't know' becomes a mantra where all must worship, or so says Pisces.
In the material world, Pisces is the representative of loss and confusion, because for them, the answers are not out here. This is not the happy medium that they are looking for. Once they tune in, however, to an inner connection, they turn on and find their guiding light. This can be either through drink, drugs and Bacchanal celebrations, or it can be through any of a number of spiritual followings which unites them with the divine.
In contemporary society Pisces rules hospitals and prisons, places where folks are removed from the consciousness of society so that they can be healed, or at least prevented from infecting others. In the past this sign has ruled slaves, captivity and exiles. It is those who are cast out. It is both the Church and the Temple, which can offer refuge, or where we can seek sanctuary and go to pray.
As people, Pisces tend to be kind, sensitive, loving and endowed with a sympathetic nature. They are idealistic, imaginative, impressionable and highly emotional. They often lack in confidence and self-esteem, unless they have learned to connect within. They need places to get away from the rush and turmoil of day to day life, but they may or may not be able to find such a place. They love getting out into nature, where their intuitive abilities 'pick up' on the peace and harmony, thus helping them to balance and feel aligned. As a water sign, they can sometimes be prone to putting on weight (water-retentive cells), but can often be counted on for help (if you can find them). They often hide in the mists of their imaginations.
