The Power of Pluto

This week we are going to be watching astrology at work as the focus of the Full Moon illuminates a piece of our national character. In astronomical terms, the Full Moon is simply an opposition of the Sun and Moon in the heavens. As the Sun sets, the Moon rises, and vice versa. Since we stand in the middle of this alignment, the full face of the Moon is being illuminated as seen from the Earth. Except during the short periods of an eclipse, the Sun is always illuminating half of the surface of the Moon, but during the Full Moon the fifty percent that is being illuminated is turned toward the Earth, and therefore can be seen by all who have clear skies.

The Full Moon

What this alignment means in astrological terms, however, adds another dimension. The Moon is the seat of our emotions. It is our feminine side, and rules the body, home, country and national character. During the Full Moon, the degrees that are being 'illuminated' come to a greater focus of realization or activity. During this Full Moon on the Wednesday the 16th, and leading through Saturday the 19th, there are a string of aspects which indicate strong transitions and the potential for powerful emotions and/or great destruction for a number of reasons.

This Full Moon is occurring at 26 degrees and 24 minutes of the sign Libra. The US Pluto is located at 27 degrees and 33 minutes of the sign Capricorn. As the Full Moon occurs, transiting Mars will be at 26 degrees and 53 minutes of Capricorn, conjuncting the US Pluto. As the Full Moon crests, it is squaring both Mars and Pluto. This is an explosive amount of destructive power. Since this series of alignments builds into a Saturn square to the US Midheaven on the 19th, the administration does not seem to be too happy with the results or is not being held in very high regard. President Bush may be held in contempt by the international court of world opinion. As we have seen in other WEBs, Saturn is currently in the sign Gemini in the US 7th house, which indicates that this is what other people think or say about the President. He may find himself having to defend his actions, or may be frustrated by what he feels to be the lack of comprehension on the part of others, especially other governments or countries.

There are a number of other positions which are being ignited by these powerful combinations. Iraq's national map has Mars at 25 Aries 22, and it's Asc at 26 Cancer 12. President Bush's Saturn is 26 Cancer 30, and his MC 24 Aries 13. Saddam's Hussein's has a Jupiter Pluto opposition, at 26 Capricorn 50 and 26 Cancer 34. These are the cardinal signs of the zodiac- Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn- and these are the principle actors currently on the world stage. This Full Moon is setting off this 'Grand Cross' of activity between the US and Iraq, President Bush and Saddam Hussein. The tide of public opinion will be at a peak, and the proverbial handwriting should be on the wall.

There is, however, one ray of hope through this time. Uranus in Pisces is quintiling Pluto on the evening of the 16th, and collective concerns, prayers, and fresh ways of dealing with things on the part of the international community could help to alleviate some of the pain and suffering of the Iraqi people, if they are allowed by the Coalition forces to participate in final decisions involving Iraq's future.
