Contained within the myths are the clues of creation. This tradition extends around the globe, across time. The following is a tale that comes from Japan.
This is the story of one of five suitors who attempted to court the Shining Princess. It is said to date back to 6 AD. The Princess did not want to marry anyone at all, and so, each of the suitors was given a nearly impossible task. Otomo no Miyuk, the Grand Counselor, ordered his servants to get him the sparkling jewel imbedded in the head of each of the dragons (implying that there are five dragons). When they failed to accomplish their quest, the Grand Counselor himself embarked on the journey over the sea to hunt the dragon. But, when he was in the middle of the ocean and most vulnerable, a terrible storm with huge waves broke out. Otomo no Miyuk knew that this was the work of dragons, and promised never to challenge their power, or nature's, again. The wisdom that comes from this experience is that thunders and dragons are in the same family, and are not to be tampered with. While dragons are never actually seen in this story, it is evident that they are linked together, and this message is clearly conveyed by the myth. Last week, we noted a seasonal association in China which could be observed by the rise and fall of the constellation Draco in the Spring and Autumn, but is this all that the power, and these legends, convey? It's one thing to think that these fables deal with imaginary beings from long ago, in lands far away, but this week, in this country, a dragon was heard. Shortly after midnight on February 14th, in southern Georgia, a dragon cut a 10-mile path of destruction, killing 22 people, and injuring scores of others. In examining this travesty, we unlock an ancient mystery, discovering a link behind these myths from across the centuries, in every continent. In a nutshell, the planets of heaven aligned with the stars of Draco, and the deep South caught the fury.
The stars involved were the two now thought to be in the head of the Dragon, but are, in actuality, his eyes. Beta and Gamma Draconis, more commonly known as Rastaban and Etamin from their Arabic names, were celestially triggered by the planets on the early morning of February 14th. First, Etamin was conjuncted by Vesta, an archetype that deals with sacrifice. It was within 5' of arc, or one twelfth of a degree from exact. But the more powerful influence was Pluto conjuncting Rastaban. While the arc had grown to 40', or two-thirds of a degree between these two, they were in the process of being set off by a T-square that evening, as Mercury first squared Pluto and the Moon completed, and triggered, the alignment. While this information may be a little technical for some, it represents the same forces we look at when we examine a natal chart. When natal planets are triggered by planets overhead, the influences are released. The same can be said of the stars. Whether we remember the myth of Otomo no Miyuk two thousand years ago, or listen to Johnny Jones, whose mobile home was thrown on its side, we discover the power of the Dragon. Said Mr. Jones, "All you heard was a roar..." Boston Globe, Feb. 15, 2000; p. A3 |

The Geometry of Astrology Last August, everyone's attention was focused on the Solar Eclipse, in part because it was a part of a Grand Cross. This means that the planets are configured in such a manner in the heavens that it appears from the Earth as though we stand at the center of two simultaneous oppositions. There are literally four planets, each holding one end of the 'cross', with the Earth in the middle. A T-square is essentially the same thing as a Grand Cross, except that one of the ends is missing. Instead of an 'X', we have a 'T'. Either of these alignments produce a considerable amount of tension. This particular T-square fell in mutable signs, with Pluto at 12 degrees of Sagittarius (mutable fire), Mercury at 12 degrees of Pisces (mutable water), and the Moon at 11 degrees of Gemini (mutable air). Rastaban, or Beta Draconis, is currently located at 11 degrees and 58 minutes of Sagittarius, and 'fell under' the tension generated by this celestial geometry. Anyone with planets in their chart at either the 11th or 12th degree of any of the mutable signs would have felt the 'thunder' of Sunday and Monday, February 13th and 14th.
It is no coincidence that the Dragon is associated with thunder, storms, floods, and the rains of heaven around the globe and throughout time. For those that were in the know, these are simply the powers of observation. We have pointed out other cases where the stars of the dragon have been triggered, and the deafening roar has been heard. But for the people in Camilla, Georgia, there is little doubt conerning the power of the dragon. |
